I had to look up the meaning of complement. I had always known the meaning of compliment, but more and more recently, I have seen so many people spelling it as complement, and wondering if maybe I was mistaken about the spelling.

COMPLIMENT - As a noun, this word means "carefully chosen wording that is said to another person to make them feel better about themselves, their appearance, their work, or something else they feel directly relates to their own personal worth." An example of this would be "I recently had my hair cut. My friend gave me the compliment that she thought my new haircut framed my face more attractively."

COMPLIMENT - As a verb, this word means "to speak a carefully worded comment to another person to make them feel better about themselves, their appearance, their work, or something else they feel directly relates to their own personal worth." An example of this would be "I compliment you on your choice of vocation. You will make an excellent lawyer."

COMPLEMENT - As a noun, this word means a full and complete group or set. An example would be "The orchestra has a full complement of 115 musicians."

COMPLEMENT - As a verb, this word means to add something to a set to make it complete or more complete than it was previously without the addition. An example would be "The Elgin Symphony Orchestra decided to complement its world-renowned orchestra with a new violinist."
